ABOUT SHEEPFOLD
history

Sheepfold Church of God in Christ’s heritage of service reaches back 70 years. The Church was organized in the summer of 1954. The congregation met at the Loving Canada addition on Alabama Street.
The old building located at 877 W. Little York Road, was erected in the summer of 1955 under the leadership of Elder George W. Douglas. Loving Canada Church of God in Christ was then renamed the Sheepfold Church of God in Christ. Elder George W. Douglas continued to pastor until his death on January 6, 1965.
In April of 1965, Elder Ray A. Wilson was appointed pastor and continued to serve Sheepfold and the Wilson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Rosenberg, Texas until his death in July 1978. Elder Benjamin Scott was appointed pastor in July 1978 and served until his death in May 1982.
In August 1982, Bishop R. E. Woodard appointed Elder Larry C. Baker pastor of Sheepfold Church where he continues to serve the people.
Under his leadership the church has grown and continues to grow. In the year of our Lord 1990, God spoke to Pastor Baker and told him to tell the congregation "it was time to move." So, Pastor Baker went to work searching for the place God had for us. The first property he found, our God let him know the price as right but, his vision was too small. Then he drove by this property that we could not afford, and God let him know that it was indeed what he had for us. This property was to be auctioned with the price beginning at $125,000 per acre. But God!! God put it in the mind of the Corporation that owned this property to sell it to us at our price. God worked and we were able to purchase the entire 5 and ½ acres for less than $75,000 cash on May 10, 1996. After this, God blessed our pastor to lead the membership to continue to work and believe God, and the result is this present edifice! Praise the Lord! In 2015, God blessed us to pay off the mortgage that would have taken us 30 years! God is blessing the vision of our leader! We are workers together with God. The love of God motivates us, and we mirror our ministry activities upon the word of God. The spirit of God anoints us to operate in the fear of God. The blood of the Son of God sanctifies us and guides us by His hand. We will continue to work until... through the grace of God! After all, we serve “A Great God who can only do Great Things!!!” and we are “A place where Great Things happen in God!” So where do we go from here? We go up!!
