Superintendent Larry Charles Baker, Jr. 43 years… “And still I cannot get over Him”… says smiling Superintendent Larry C. Baker of Sheepfold Church in an interview with the Houston Chronicle. “God has anointed me for this!” Prior to his journey as a shepherd, Superintendent Baker attended Saints Academy in Lexington, Mississippi, did biblical studies at C H Mason Bible College while attending Texas Southern University. He graduated from Texas Southern University with a major in Biology, and a double minor in Chemistry and Math. His course of study provided him an opportunity to be employed by Dow Chemicals USA for two (2) years and the City of Houston for nineteen (19) years. While at the City, Superintendent Baker earned the reputation of being able to work effectively with difficult people with whom no one else could or wanted to work. He was responsible for the procurement and expenditure of millions of dollars annually. He supervised the City of Houston Wastewater Pollution Control Sampling Group reporting analytical results to both Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He served as a Family & Life Counselor in the Spring ISD. Superintendent Baker held several different offices as he transitioned in ministry. He served as Sunday School Superintendent of the North Houston District, State Program Chairman, Assistant State Sunday School Superintendent, and State Sunday School Superintendent for TSE#1. He was the leader, as well as the organizer, and Chairman of the first AIM (Auxiliaries in Ministry) in TSE#1—a position he willingly gave up in obedience to God’s call to build Him a sanctuary, which was completed in 2005 in spite of opposition and distractions. In 2017, Bishop Destry C. Bell, Sr., appointed Superintendent Baker to serve as the Administrative Assistant of Meetings and Conventions. Superintendent Baker serves as Pastor of Sheepfold Church of God in Christ, Houston, Texas. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and Certificates of Congressional Recognition. Superintendent Baker’s ministry can be likened to that of a butterfly emerging from a cocoon. When you talk to Superintendent Baker about ministry, his entire being is electrified as he transfers his excitement about the vision that God is gradually unfolding to him about the future of the church. Superintendent Baker married Terrye Faye Washington in 1980. And, the Lord gave them two choice blessings Larry Charles III, and Virginia Sidney Delores in spite of doctors’ reports that they would never have children. Superintendent Larry Baker and Supervisor Terrye Baker have been serving together in ministry for 45 years.
